Last weekend was a little boring for my liking. This week I was hoping that hometowns would spice things up for us a little bit this week.
First stop– California with Amanda’s family. You can’t help but melt at Amanda’s reunion with her daughters. They are absolutely adorable. Ben seems to interact great with the children. But how long will that last? It’s easy to play daddy for a day but for long term…? Then starts the shrieking lungs from the girls in the back seat of the car… the awful ear piercing cry of toddlers everywhere. That would be enough to send me running. There is nothing worse than a shrieking child and a scared (potential) baby daddy. Ben is already looking a little drained. When you think about it- most people think about and consider having kids for a long time before actually having one. They have a true desire for them. Ben wasn’t intending on that so is he really ready? He really needs to be sure about Amanda, especially with kids in the picture. I understand her parents concerns about the process because Amanda’s feelings aren’t just in play; its the kids as well. Amanda’s dad really ropes into Ben about what its like to be a step dad and what a challenge it will be. But, surprisingly Ben seems up to the task. Amanda confesses that after seeing him interact with the kids and how well he handled everything she feels she is in love with him. Overall- pretty non dramatic & pretty successful.
Next up- Portland with Lauren B’s family. You can see how excited Ben is to see Lauren. His whole face lights up. I think his relationship with her is unrivaled. They take a trip to some food trucks & a whiskey library. Whiskey library? Sounds like my type of place. Maybe Lauren B. & I have something in common. Lauren is hesitant about telling him she’s in love with him until he meets her family. She says that without her parents support she wouldn’t be able to pursue the relationship. Let’s be real Lauren. Every girl says that, but no matter what- you’re going to do what you want anyway. It’s how the world works. Then we learn our lesson the hard way. At first glance, her family looks just as cute and friendly as she does. Her family seems really tight knit and I think this is going to be a huge advantage for her as it appeals to Ben. Lauren’s sister Mollie grills the shit out of Ben. Ben actually breaks down when he’s talking about his feelings for Lauren. His tears are sparking tears in the eyes of viewers everywhere! Ugh Ben. His cuteness forever killing us all. If she’s not the winner of this show, I would be shocked. Ben seems to get Lauren’s parents stamp of approval but they have the same reservations as the rest of the parents. Coming from parents who have been together for years, it is hard for them to wrap their head around a relationship developed over the mere course of weeks.
Caila’s third in the line up in Ohio. Caila takes Ben to her dad’s toy company to design a house together. Throwing hints you think? I thought that designing a house was like a lego house… Not one of those big houses for toddlers that I had in my backyard when I was 5. I give her credit for an original date idea. That was better than anything the producers thought of this season (hot tubes for dayssss). At this point though, Caila is really starting to irritate me. All she does is giggle at everything and say things of little substance. NOT EVERYTHING IS FUNNY! Stop laughing so much. What is funny though? Caila’s mom also looks like she’s twelve years old (right down to the braces). They must have good genes. Caila struggles with the same thing as Lauren B. They both have this desire of wanting to tell Ben that they love him but but don’t want to share that until after getting the family’s advice. Caila’s mom says that she has high standards and hasn’t found that person that can live up to the hype. Maybe she’s more difficult to deal with than she is portraying herself than she is on tv. We have a possible high maintenace lady on our hands, folks. Her mom gives her advice to tell him she loves him before she’s too late. She chickens out. She’s starting to question whether she is ready since she has these scared feelings lingering.
At this point, I’m getting a little antsy for drama. The first three visits have been the same. The excited girl, the hesitant parents, the girl that says she’s in love. BRING SOME JUICINESS TO THIS PLEASE.
Last & final trip- Dallas to meet JoJo’s family. Jojo gets home to see a bouquet of roses on her front stoop. She is so excited when she thinks that Ben did something special for her. She reads the letter included with the flowers and her face drops. By the sound of the letter, it didn’t sound like it was from Ben. It turns out it was from her ex. She immediately calls him and calls him out for sending these to her ad messing with her feelings. From the sound of things, she definitely has some lingering feelings for him as well. Here was that drama I was waiting for! Upon a quick google search, we can see that Jojo’s ex Chad and her split only a few months before the show filmed. The wounds are bit fresh then, huh? An even weirder fun fact is that he is dog sitting her puppy while she is on the show…. After all of this Ben, shows up at JoJos door. Awkward moment. Jojo is in tears when Ben shows up and she tells him what happened. This makes Ben uncomfortable but JoJo seems to squash the bug and tell him that she’s the happiest she has ever been. Now it’s time to meet the rents. First things first. That house?? It’s absurd. Second thing- JoJo’s mom has definitely had some work done… by a poor plastic surgeon. JoJo seems to be from another big and loving family as well. JoJo’s brothers are super protective.. like creepily protective. Their relationship borders on too close. I got some Cruel intentions vibes here except this time, it’s blood relation. JoJo’s mom gives her the go ahead to give herself to Ben and let herself fall. Her brothers & her father however, are not as easy to crack. Her brother tell her to guard her heart. They don’t think that he’s as into it as she is. Opposite ends of the spectrum here. Her brothers proceed to call him out in front of everyone. They feel like Ben was coached what to say and what was fake. It obviously did not go so well and that was not the family trip that Ben was hoping for.
Rose Ceremony- Lauren B. gets the first rose and honestly who is surprised? No one. #TeamLaurenB. Amanda gets sent home. This is especially harsh after Ben’s comments to not insert himself in her & her kids lives unless it was for real. Too late for that Ben. You already met her kids. Now Amanda has to go home and try to explain that to her daughters. If I were Amanda, I would be pretty pissed but she handles it really well. She had a valid point when she told him he should have let her stay at home rather than making her come back to LA for the rose ceremony. In all honesty, Ben was probably not ready to be a dad.
