This week Ben takes the girls to Warsaw, Indiana; his hometown. We know Ben is a family man so this week is pretty important for the girls. The stakes are high and there are only 6 women left.
The girls seem to love Indiana which is a huge 180 from last season when all the girls were wary about moving to middle of nowhere Iowa to be with Farmer Chris. I would have never moved to Iowa either and look how long that engagement lasted…Maybe this is setting up to be a better chance at a relationship than last season.
One on one date: Lauren B. gets the one on one. This is perfect timing for her as she has been anxious since last week’s conversation with Ben after Leah threw her under the bus. You can see the girls faces drop; its like their hearts were ripped out of their chests. Jojo looks like she’s about to throw up. Someone else is getting more validation than the rest of them and it is even more of a slap in the face since Ben asked Lauren right in front of them rather than receiving a date card. They go to visit Ben’s high school to play in gym class with some of the kids. This definitely one of the cuter dates I’ve seen and it shows how important these children are to Ben and how big his heart is. Ben brings in some of the players and coaches from the Indiana Pacers to train the kids. It’s nice to see how Ben wants to give back to the community. It also shows that he will eventually be a great dad (this would have been a perfect date for Amanda). You can see how this is having an impact on Lauren and how she feels about Ben.
Back at the house: The girls are freaking out in the house. Jojo gets the second one on one date which is really making the other girls squirm. Seeing the two girls with the best connections with Ben get even more attention, intimidates the girls further. It only puts the others further behind.
One on one: Lauren addresses last week’s fiasco with Ben. She makes it known that the fact that it made her sick that Leah’s comments could have changed the way he felt about her. He reassured her that his feelings for her are so strong that the comments of one person could not have changed it for her. Her demeanor instantly changes as her confidence is returned. He takes her to a hometown bar where he’s able to introduce her to some of his friends which is big for her. Her confession to the producers is that she is in love with Ben and its pretty obvious to the viewers that those feelings are reciprocated. Honestly it doesn’t even look like a close competition between her and the other girls.
Second one on one: Ben takes JoJo to Chicago and they take a trip to Wrigley field where they have the stadium to themselves. They have a great time but JoJo has trouble opening up because she is scared to give everything up to him in case she gets let down. Ben confronts Jojo about questioning how much her feelings are really there. Uh oh. Jojo does have the feelings but she’s scared to make the jump. On the other hand, he’s nervous about her being ready for a proposal.
Back at the house: The girls are really struggling with seeing people come back from dates on an emotional high, while they’re left behind. The girls that went on the dates then deal with the fact that the next girl will be feeling these same feelings tomorrow. It’s an emotional roller coaster for them all. Emily gets the third one on one. Becca is feeling differently than her last time around. I think its because this time she actually gives a shit. Last year I wasn’t even sure that Becca liked Chris let alone loved him… This season she’s on the verge of a panic attack from a lack of attention from Ben.
Group date: They go on a date at a farm involving boats and kites. Honestly, I don’t remember the final group dates being this awkward in past seasons. This is so awkward that it is actually painful to watch it. The girls are making it weird and making the tension so strong that you could cut it with a scissor. At the end of the group date, one would get a rose at the end of the date and get to spend the rest of the day with Ben. The other two would have to go home. Ouch. Amanda opens up to Ben about being excited for him to meet her kids but also from a mom’s perspective knowing that she had to be ready for this. Becca tells Ben that group dates have been frustrating her because she hasn’t been getting as much validation as other girls in the house. She says she can’t tell if he really feels any stronger for her than other people. She sees other people getting those feelings reciprocated more and basically calls him out. She gets demanding, saying that if he doesn’t feel that way then its fine but she deserves to know and deserves someone that wants her here. This is a different side of Becca that we haven’t really seen. I think her demanding tone of voice was not really the right way to go about it and feel like this is a strike against her in Ben’s book. If she really feels like that she should be putting herself out there rather than being standoffish and calling him out later on. He’s not a mind reader. Caila’s concerned that she doesn’t have as much of a hometown to show Ben because she’s moved around a lot. Ben asks her if she sees herself as a nomad or if she really could settle in one place and Caila’s response was pretty noncommittal. You can tell she’s nervous that this may impact how he feels about her.
At the end of the date, Ben says he wants to give the rose to someone who he wants to know he really is looking forward to meeting their family. I instantly knew who it was– Amanda. Becca is in tears. She feels like she gets nothing from him and doesn’t know why. Maybe it was because you were a bitch. In the moment she might not have felt like her delivery was bad, but it came out harsh and probably did more harm than good. Back at the house, Becca is in hysterics. She felt she reached out and said she needed more time and reassurance and she didn’t get anything back which hurt her feelings. The girls don’t understand how he could give one person so much more validation. Amanda not only gets an extra one on one but she also gets an automatic pass into hometowns. While this is going on Ben takes Amanda to McDonalds… They serve burgers through the drive through window and go to work. Most girls would be grossed out by a trip to Mickey D’s but Amanda handles it well. I’m sure that she’s had plenty of trips there with her kids. Then they head to the fair where the crowd loves them. They go on rides and play with kids. Everywhere they go, the crowd has their eyes on them. I guess what else do you have to do in Warsaw, Indiana? He’s the highlight of their year.
One on one: Ben is taking Emily on the next one on one. She has always felt that their relationship has not been as far along as their others. This is a big date for them and for Ben to determine whether their relationship can grow or not. He brings her home to meet his parents which is HUGE. Emily talks to Ben’s mom about how this has made her grow as a woman and her dreams and aspirations. I don’t think Ben’s mom got a word in edgewise. “I love watching movies. If i could just watch movies all day long that would be my favorite thing,” said no mature adult ever. Emily is digging herself a hole. She seems a little young to his parents and they do not really think that she is ready to be a wife and I agree. She’s young, beautiful & full of life. However, she’s only 23 and has so much time ahead of her. I really don’t think she’s ready to be settled just yet. Ben’s mom addresses her uncertainties about Emily as well as the uncertainties that she feels Emily has as well. Ben seems to be feeling the same way as well. At the end of the date, after telling Emily how great his parents thought she was Ben tells Emily “I just don’t think I can see you being my wife.” Woof. That was harsh. He shouldn’t have opened that conversation with compliments. If i were her, I would have been confused AF. Mad props to Emily though who held it together in front of Ben pretty well. I would have been a hot teary mess.
Rose Ceremony: He sends Becca home. I had a feeling Becca’s words would come back to bite her in the ass.She feels blindsided but I don’t think she should. She had a feeling this was coming. It’ll be interesting to see what happens during hometowns next week!
