Poor Ben. This week was a little dramatic for America’s favorite Bachelor as he dealt with a ton of tension and emotions flowing through the house. Unfortunately for him, it’s part of the job description.
The episode kicks off with nothing other than a little bit of shit talking between some girls in the house regarding Olivia. They refer to her as a “mean girl” who knows how to act in front of the camera. The girls are seeing through her bullshit nice girl act and are hoping Ben will do the same. She is a real life Regina George.
One on one date: Lauren B. gets selected for the one on one. She has made a great impression so far. She’s cute, friendly, and has a real job. You can tell they have a connection and I sense that she will be going far in the competition. Their date starts on a teeny little plane. Pretty sure there’s nothing more romantic than pissing your pants in fear right? That’s what I would be doing if I were inside that thing. Their plane takes them to a hot tub in the middle of nowhere (because that’s a totally realistic date in the land of televised love) followed by a private concert (also realistic right?). Is Ben going to have all of his favorite performers play privately for these girls? He did do the same thing last week. Ben, it’s only an original idea if you do it once. Overall their date was nice & wholesome. You can tell how into each other they are and she seems like one of the more normal personalities in the house.
Caila: While Lauren is on the one on one, reality begins to set in for her. She claims she’s just realizing now while he is on a date with someone else that he could fall in love with someone other than her. Really? You realize that now? The 24 other girls in the house on night 1 didn’t give that away? It’s not a competition show or anything. I bet she’s regretting that last minute break up right about now.
Day: This date takes place in the LA Coliseum and the US Soccer team stars Alex Morgan & Kelly O’Hara come to help teach the girls soccer. All of these girls must have failed phys ed because they have absolutely no athletic ability. Ben announces that there will be a soccer game and the winners will get to go to the after party. The other team will have to go home. Great, take catty and competitive girls and put them in an aggressive contact sport. This sounds like a recipe for disaster. They will probably try to break each other’s ankles in order to get time with Ben. So how did it go? Well, Emily’s new profession should be soccer goalie instead of Twin. She was pretty good. Rachel falls and gets injured; if you don’t remember her she’s the one who is unemployed. The stripes team ended up winning due to this, despite Emily’s goalie skills.
Night: At the cocktail party, Olivia grabs Ben right away and brings him upstairs. She is certainly aggressive and not letting anything get in her way of what she wants. She is always going after him to get in her time first. She says, “they have a mutual understanding that they need time together.” I don’t think I have ever seen someone so cocky. I can’t help but hope it comes back to bite her in the ass. She says hi to everyone from the balcony above them while she’s with Ben. It seems like she is rubbing her time with him in their face. It was a “Ha! Ha! Look at me!”moment for sure. Olivia tells Ben that the girls find her intimidating. Ben says it’s because she got the first roses two weeks in a row. I’m thinking it’s more because she’s awful and rude than because anyone being intimidated by how awesome she is. Meanwhile, the girls downstairs are being petty talking about her ugly toes and bad breath. I don’t think anyone has cute toes…but maybe that’s just me. Stooping down to her level is not going to help the girls in any way and they are just perpetuating the problem. Jami tells Olivia about the girls talking. We get it Jami, you’re trying to be nice but really you’re just stirring the pot and causing more problems. Not only that, but this kind of talk is inflating Olivia’s ego even more by making her think they are just jealous of her. Next, Amber is dying for her time to talk to Ben. Amber, stop talking about it and DO it then. This is why no one noticed you last season. Stop being so passive. She finally gets her time and opens up to Ben and kisses him. She gets the date rose for taking the time to get to know him better. Amber is happy because she’s never been safe in a rose ceremony before. In other words, she’s happy because she can continue her reality TV career for one more week. Olivia says, “I know his heart. I know he couldn’t have given me a rose again.” She goes on to say she knows he feels the same way because he pushed off of her leg when he got up at the end of the date… Sure that’s a surefire way to know someone is feeling it..a leg tap. Sounds like you’re just trying to make yourself feel better.
One on one date: Jubilee get’s the one on one date which makes her so excited. She was feeling very insecure because she did not feel like she was Ben’s type. Ben’s liking the easy going, not complicated, peppy girls and that is not her. She comes with some baggage. Can you blame him? Who wants complicated and dramatic? He wants someone that complements him and makes him happy, not miserable. Still, we haven’t really seen that much of Jubilee yet. What we do know is that she’s been through a lot. She’s made it home from Iraq and with that, she is guaranteed to have some baggage. Jubilee is being super awkward at the beginning of this date. She calls Ben out for being 20 minutes late (not a way to win someone over). Their helicopter arrives and she immediately asks if anyone else wants to go on her date since she is scared of heights. Most of the girls felt this was pretty rude and that she should be grateful that she even got the date. I think it was rude to say in front of Ben since he went to great lengths to plan the date but I also think she’s socially awkward and didn’t know how to act. Then again, if you’re socially awkward don’t sign yourself up for a televised dating show. While on the date, we see that Jubilee is anything but graceful. Still, that is what attracts Ben to her. Her abrasiveness is one of the qualities that differentiates her from the other girls. She practically spits out her caviar and almost throws up. She admits that her favorite food is a hot dog. He should have just taken her to a baseball game rather than a gourmet meal. Eventually, the date moves to yet another hot tub. I’m sensing a trend here. Does Ben have a hot tub fetish we don’t know about? Jubilee is still pretty awkward and has trouble getting the words out she wants to say.
At the dinner part of the date, Jubilee says she hasn’t been back to Haiti because she can’t go back alone because she’s scared of her past. Ben, she’s looking to bring you back to face those demons with her. She says her biggest fear of being unlovable derives from her messed up childhood there. Is it just me or does it seem a little fishy that her biggest fear is the same as Ben’s? Hm… I think she may have figured out that was her biggest fear from the last season of The Bachelorette. She’s trying to connect with him over their similarities but it seems that it is forced. Still, you can’t help but feel your heart strings being tugged a bit when she tells Ben that her whole family has died since she left Haiti. We know Ben’s are too. “I know who she is and I like it,” says Ben. Do you really Ben? Do you? because I don’t think you do and I think you’re about to see another side of her pretty soon. He loves that Jubilee has a ton of layers. Layers…like an onion…like Shrek? So she’s an Ogre. Sounds good, Ben! When Jubilee returns to the house later the girls are surprised that she was not sent home and this causes a ton of tension in the house.
Cocktail party: Ben opens the party by opening up about two of his family friends being killed in a plane crash. He starts the night off on a low note in hope of comfort from some of the girls. Olivia quickly pulls him to side to talk. You would think she wants to comfort him and is swooping in for this great opportunity right? Nope, she wants to talk to him about her insecurities about her cankles. This was the most self absorbed things I have ever witnessed. She can’t take the focus off of herself for even a minute. Ben was clearly not into the conversation either and seemed pretty surprised at where it went. Maybe Ben is starting to see the true colors coming out. Jubilee discusses the anxiety she has about about having relationships with the other girls. To make Ben feel better, she brings him to a massage chair to give him a massage. Hint Jubilee: that move isn’t making you any friends when you already have a rose. Ben appreciates it but the other girls did not. The girls in the house feel that she was flaunting her rose in their faces and decide to confront her about it. Amber goes to talk to Jubilee about her issues with this and she says “I’m not doing a girl chat.” Well, Jubilee that may be why you have no friends. She storms off and tells everyone to leave her alone. Ben goes to comfort her and Jubilee cries hysterically because she has no idea what she did wrong. Amber tries to explain that she pissed her off and this wasn’t meant as an attack but it does seem like an attack. Amber was better off keeping her mouth shut but really I think she’s just on a quest to gain more attention for herself this season. We never really saw Jubilee “flaunting” the rose. What we saw was Jubilee being quiet and socially awkward which I now believe is just part of her personality. I don’t think her silence or separating herself from the group was anything malicious. I do think Amber had malicious intentions and was very mean to Jubilee. Even if another girl’s cockiness in the house upsets you, attacking her and her character is only going to make you look bad in Ben’s eyes no matter what. Next up, Lace pulls Ben aside while she is visibly upset. She tells him she wants to go home because she needs to work on herself. She says that she can’t love anyone until she loves herself. That might be the one smart thing she has ever said. She probably knew she was getting sent home and wanted to save herself the embarrassment and let herself go first. Now, Olivia will transition from part time villain to full time as ABC needs to hit their quota.
Rose ceremony: Throughout the ceremony, Olivia is getting pretty sweaty waiting for her rose. She ends up getting the final rose while Jami and Shushanna go home. Olivia claims that her & Ben have this “unspoken communication” because he squeezed her waist when she accepted her waist. Olivia, you’re just make everyone think you’re a little crazy and reading way to into little actions that actually mean nothing in order to make yourself feel better. “He’s my man at this point.” But is he really, Olivia? Her “save the best for last” mentality might work for her but to me it just means she’s getting edged out. I think Olivia is this year’s Kelsey Poe (crazy widow from Chris Soules’ season). Another week of Ben not seeing through her crap, but I think the tipping point may be coming soon… Stay tuned!
