One wellness trend I’ve decided to delve into head first is the addition of collagen to my diet. Yes, you read that right. I’m talking about collagen; the same protein you’ve always heard about that’s linked to hair, nails & skin.
Collagen has a ton of different health benefits. Here are just a few of the improvements it can have on your wellness:
- Improves your skin and reduces wrinkles
- Strengthens & repairs your bones and joints
- Improves the quality of your hair and the rate in which it grows
- Strengthens your nails and teeth
- Helps your digestive system (known to help leaky gut and other digestive disorders)
With a list like that, it’s pretty much a miracle supplement to add to your diet. Worried about wrinkles? Collagen boosts the regeneration of your skin and increases the moisture of your skin. The boosts of collagen make your skin firmer (aka less wrinkles). This leads to younger, more youthful looking skin. An anti aging wonder! Worried about gut issues? Collagen helps to reduce inflammation that causes most gut issues such as IBS or acid reflux. The protein helps to form connective tissue that works to protect our gastrointestinal lining. Worried about post workout muscle repair? Collagen helps to recover your bones and joints more easily. It helps to build muscle mass and recover muscle tissue quickly. Worried about losing weight? Collagen helps to boost your metabolism and increase your satiation. It has 18g of protein for 70 calories in just 2 scoops.
There’s so many reasons you should add it in to your normal routine. But, how? My favorite ways to sneak collagen into my diet are by adding it into a smoothie or my morning cup of coffee. The plain flavor is both tasteless and odorless. The powder dissolves instantly. You won’t even know it’s there! Another great way to use it is to mix it into hot lemon water with apple cider vinegar or in a cup of tea.
