2016 was a crazy year to say the least and I can’t believe that it’s already coming to a close. It seems like just yesterday we were toasting to the new year and the adventures ahead. Over the course of the last twelve months, we’ve experienced the death of numerous legends in the entertainment industry and a tumultuous year of politics and change. Despite the negativity surrounding this year, I will say that the fashion industry managed to have a pretty good run. Some of my favorite trends came about this year and hopefully are here to stay for a while. Here are my favorite trends from 2016-
Loafers & Slides
Splurge: ‘Princetown’ Mule Loafer, Gucci, $595
Save: Loraine Bit Loafer, Sam Edelman $119.95
Black loafers or slides are so versatile and were one of the most practical trends that came out of this year. They are comfortable, flattering and match with pretty much anything. Gucci specifically had a big year with their slides gaining a ton of traction this year. Even their fur lined version of the slides were a huge hit with celebrities and fashion bloggers alike.
Splurge: Collette Tank Dress, For Love & Lemons $180
Save: Velvet Textured Surplice Romper by Design Lab, Lord & Taylor $57.99
Velvet was one of the biggest trends for the holiday season this year and I am a huge fan. The fabric never ceases to make your look more elegant.
Top seen above is from Vanilla Sky.
Relaxed Cold Shoulder Top, Topshop $28
Cold shoulders was a favorite of mine because it could take any simple thermal or sweater and instantly make it cooler.
Choker seen here is from Jennifer Schuitemaker.
Velvet Choker, Topshop $12
Cristabelle Long Wrap Choker Necklace, Nordstrom $28
Andra Choker, Baublebar $68
Chokers are my favorite comeback trend of the year. They add a little edge to every look.
Off the Shoulder Everything
Gibson Convertible Neckline Cozy Fleece Tunic, Nordstrom $54
Off the Shoulder tops and dresses provide just the right amount of skin to feel daring and sexy without being too scandalous.
Over the Knee Boots
Splurge: ‘Lowland’ Over the Knee Boot, Stuart Weitzman $798
Save: Gabriana Stretch Over the Knee Boot, Steve Madden $129.95
Ok I know, I know. These were a trend last year too. But, it’s because they are so good that these boots are not going anywhere anytime soon.
