Working out can truly feel like a chore sometimes. If you’re not careful you can fall into a rut and lose your motivation pretty easily. The habit of not working out is one that is extremely tough to get out of once you’re accustomed to it. When I feel myself slipping down this path, there are a few things I always do to keep myself on track. These tricks prevent me from quitting and keep me working towards my goals. Here are my tried & true methods for staying motivated:
- Switch up your routine
If your workouts are getting repetitive that means it’s time to make a change. Repeating the same workout routine only leads to boredom. As you know, boredom only leads to bad things. Instead of hopping on the treadmill, take a new workout class. Vary your routine between activities like running, boxing, spinning & barre. If you have a constant rotation of activities, you will never get bored.
2. Invest in some new workout gear
Fabletics, anyone? There is nothing that will put you in the mood to workout more than a cute and stylish workout outfit. If you have a new outfit that you want to show off you will be running to the gym. Fabletics has a great program that offers members monthly outfit options at relatively low prices. The best part? If you’re not feeling it that month simply opt out by the 5th of the month and you won’t be charged.
3. Scroll your Instagram feed
Your instagram feed is a never ending sea of #fitspo. Use this as a guide for motivation and to fuel your desire to attain your body or strength goals.
4. Keep a workout log
If you write it down and track it you are much more likely to stick to it. Trust me!
5. Workout with a Friend
Sure you can bail on your own gym time but bailing on plans with a friend? Not cool. Working out with a buddy holds you accountable and makes you much more likely to show up.
