Monster Cycle is nestled in Soho on Lafayette street; a great central downtown location. I knew I would love this place from the get go. I have a strange fascination with skull motifs, scary movies and all things generally creepy. Well, this place encompasses just that. Skulls adorn the walls, the ceiling lights and even the arms of its tattooed instructors.
What separates Monster Cycle from other spin studios for me is that they play music videos for all of the songs played throughout class on giant projector screens. It is seriously entertaining and keeps you distracted from how badly your legs are burning during those hills in class! We all know how important the music is in a class to keep you interested and motivated.
This month is an especially great time to visit Monster Cycle as they are serving up Halloween themed rides all day, everyday. The themes include sexy witches, scream queens, and more. Tonight’s ride was Hot Ghouls. We had a giant cardio dance party to some of the sexiest names in music and rode to their creepiest, strangest, music videos. Songs included Haunted by Beyonce, Ghost Town by Adam Lambert, This Club is A Haunted House by Sharon Needles…you get the point. Each video had its own creepy and in some cases gory twist. It definitely gave the feel that we were in our own kind of haunted house.
Aside from the awesome visuals and effects the studio has, the workout is super challenging. I rarely find places that I feel give me as good of a workout as SoulCycle does but Monster Cycle steps up to the plate. Dimitri & Michael are both great instructors and push everyone in the room to perform their personal best. The classes include a ton of jumps and breakaways using a lot of resistance on the bike. You will feel the burn and leave the class with your legs screaming at you from all the times they push you to get to that level 10. Still, you will leave the class feeling better than you did before. Get to Monster Cycle before Halloween to get into the holiday spirit AND get a great workout in!
