Ever since I was younger, I had always dreamed of making a career for myself in fashion. As soon as I could apply to colleges, I went straight for the journalism program in an effort to fulfill my dreams of becoming a fashion writer. I envisioned myself as a reporter taking on fashion week by storm. Years later, I finally made that into a reality as I attended my first fashion week not as a writer for a publication but instead as a blogger. Of course it didn’t happen without some setbacks (hello, snowstorm of 2017) but luckily, I was still able to attend some events. I was not going to let the awful wintery NYC weather completely slow me down!
After a day full of events, I got to see all of the sides of fashion week. The good side: the street style looks that inspired me, the beautiful fashion that graced the runway, connecting with other bloggers, and learning the ins and outs of how it all works (trust me, I took mental notes). The bad side: rushing around NYC to make your next show after the first show runs late (schedules are never accurate), crowded waiting areas and long lines, disorganized check in systems, and the dreaded words: standing room only. Nevertheless, it was certainly a learning experience.
The best part of the experience was the Leanne Marshall show. If you’re unfamiliar, Leanne Marshall was the winner of season 5 of Project Runway. Her Autumn/Winter show left me blown away and completely impressed. The models showcased one stunning piece after another; gowns with a truly ethereal feel to them. The pieces, mostly comprised of satin or chiffon, were the perfect picture of romantic and dreamy style. The line consisted of mostly natural and neutral hues with a few red gowns sprinkled in to really add to the romantic feel of the show. I left feeling as if I had not seen a single gown that I didn’t like. Here are some of my favorites–

I also want to share one of my NYFW looks with you all! Getting ready for NYFW was definitely exciting and I wanted to put together a look both trendy and also functional for the weather we would be having. Getting around the city in a hail storm was no easy feat! I ended up picking a look that embodied three of my favorite trends as of late; off the shoulders, statement sleeves and embroidery. I decided to skip heels for safety reasons and after being on my feet for 12 hours I had never been so grateful about that decision.
