If you live in NYC, you’ve more than likely picked up your phone and ordered dinner through the GrubHub or Seamless app. Let’s be honest here– Seamless is a New Yorker’s best friend. Seamless gets seamlessly (ha!) worked into many conversations over what you ate for dinner last night. But, have you tried Try Caviar yet? If not, you should. Abandon your alternate apps for a night and give this one a shot.
Try Caviar offers delivery from some of the best local restaurants. Many of these are not available through other dining apps. These “high-end restaurants” are available with limited (but still sufficient) menus. Instead of a restaurant delivery man, your food is delivered to you by one of Try Caviar’s own which allows for the wide variety of restaurants including ones that would typically be excluding from your normal delivery zone. Options range from Blue Ribbon Sushi to The Meatball Shop, Blue Smoke or even Lure Fishbar. What is even better is that you can select “Delivery for Later” and choose a delivery time earlier in the day so you can avoid that typical 60-75 min wait for your food. I find this app useful for trying the restaurants that populate my Instagram feed without having to wait an hour for a table.
There are so many great restaurants to choose from and many of them are healthy and/or have healthy choices! Eat out and still maintain your healthy lifestyle with choices from these great places:
1. Lyfe Kitchen
Lyfe Kitchen was designed around the idea of creating a restaurant where the food tastes good but is also good for you. All of their menu items are sourced with natural ingredients from local farms. This means organic produce and responsibly raised meats. They recreate many of our favorite dishes without the high caloric value. Some great options here include the Buffalo Chicken Wrap, Margherita Flatbread, Unfried buffalo chicken strips, or the Quinoa crunch bowl. All of these clock in around 400-600 calories, much less than your standard takeout fare.
2. Blue Ribbon Sushi
Sushi is always a great choice since it is chock full of omega 3’s and protein. Blue Ribbon sticks to the basics with no frills sushi (ex: no super dynamite rolls and other crazy concoctions you normally see on menus), which leads to a healthier roll made from the freshest fish that I’ve ever had in NYC. Salmon Avocado roll is a great choice to get in your protein, healthy fat, and carbs.
3. Black Tap Craft Burgers
Contrary to popular belief, most burger places have healthy choices. My personal favorite is The Californian: an organic turkey burger with avocado, swiss cheese and truffle aioli. For all you gluten sensitive folks out there, they offer gluten free buns with any burger. Not feelin’ the bread tonight? Go for one of their Craft Burger Salads. A great option is the Falafel Burger salad (vegetarian) with feta and tahini dressing.
4. The Meatball Shop
Yes, even meatballs can be healthy. The “Kitchen Sink” salad is a great choice for those who want to have their ‘balls and stay healthy too. Your choice of meatballs and sauce come on a salad filled with a variety of seasonal vegetables. For a lighter “ball”, choose either the vegetarian or chicken.
Darrow’s Farm Fresh Takeout uses local and organic ingredients to provide a nutritional meal to their customers. Tasty options include wild salmon with roasted root vegetables, the quinoa amaranth black bean burger or the tuscan kale salad.
This new mediterranean eatery is right up your alley if you enjoy hummus as much as I do. Choose from either a salad bowl, rice bowl or wrap. From there you can personalize just as you would at Chipotle. Wild thyme cauliflower, turmeric chicken, sweet and sour eggplant and tabbouleh are just some of the delicious choices.
